Looking back on the past semester, as well as this past summer break, can show quite a bit about where I am as a player and as a person in general. For the better part of 7 months as of the time of writing, I have been injured and unable to participate in games while simultaneously not being able to practice in the majority of practices as well. I would like to think that the experiences that I have accumulated over these past months can help paint a picture as to where I have come from as well as where I can go moving forward.
Recollection of these past few months have made me ask quite a few questions to myself, with the main one being whether or not I am doing everything I can to return to practice, and eventually games. Part of me thinks that I am running away from confrontation by hiding as a member of the Disabled List, but that was only a thought I had for a number of weeks towards the beginning of my injury. In my head, it would not make any sense for someone to willingly watch his friends play soccer without doing so himself as I continued to find myself playing with a soccer ball even when told not to.
I also learned quite a bit in regards to the inner workings of the club, specifically the coach-player relations as well as how players reacted to training from an outside perspective. This perspective was especially new to me, seeing as I had never been injured for any extended period of time and thus not seeing the training I was doing from an outside perspective.
Looking forward, there are a number of things that I look forward to seeing develop as well as learn. In the previous blog post I had written I had stated that I was looking forward to understanding the team tactics better than I had previously, and although I now do understand the tactics much better, the method of learning was less than optimal. The optimal method of learning would have been experiencing it first hand rather than on the sidelines. That being said, I do plan on developing my knowledge in regards to soccer tactics and coach-player relations. I do intend on recovering as fast as possible, but injuries just seem to find me without fail as of recently. Moving forward, I guess we’ll just have to see where life takes me in regards to where and what I do in the future.
